Fifth Oak is the photography studio of Claire Dub. My approach to photography is informed by a background in architecture, a parallel practice in filmmaking, and a lust for life.
I love people, which makes photographing them a pleasure. The company of my subjects and the lively experience of shooting with them drives me to capture expressive shots. I believe all bodies are beautiful and strive for people to feel relaxed and proud in front of the camera.
During events or group sessions, I recede as a fly on the wall, quietly honing candid moments that are rich with personality and atmosphere. If anyone is inspired to strike a pose with intention, I’m ready to be playful.
In sessions with individuals, couples and small groups, my approach is casual yet direct. I like to prep by conceptualizing the shoot with as much collaboration as my subject prefers, and readying all the elements we need so that when we shoot, it will be laid back and fun. I give as much explicit direction as is called for to help my subject find their groove and feel good in front of the camera. If shooting with kids, we will get the essential shots out of the way asap!
By way of color, composition and personality, I strive for images that evoke visual satisfaction.
